Biographical sketch
I am an Assistant Extension Professor with Mississippi State University and a Marine Fisheries Specialist with the Mississippi-Alabama Sea Grant Consortium. I am a fisheries ecologist investigating the ecological role of sharks, as well as species like red snapper and tarpon, in coastal ecosystems. The bulk of my work has taken place in the northern Gulf of Mexico, an ecosystem with an exciting diversity of species. I am a fellow of the American Institute of Fishery Research Biologists and have served as a member of the Gulf of Mexico Fishery Management Council’s Reef Fish Science and Statistical Committee, the NOAA Fisheries Highly Migratory Species Advisory Panel and the American Elasmobranch Society board of directors. Each summer I enjoy teaching a field course titled Shark and Ray Biology, where I can expose undergraduate students to the sharks that have captivated me since childhood.
