Biographical sketch
John Peterson is a graduate of Auburn University in Civil Engineering, which he has practiced for over 30 years. Mr. Peterson has design experience in many areas of engineering, including development practices, roadway development, and major program management. He is currently employed as a Vice President with Mott MacDonald in Mobile. Mr. Peterson has lived within the D’Olive Watershed in Daphne, Alabama since 1987. He has always taken an active approach to being involved in the community. In 1989, he was elected to the Daphne City Council as one of the first council members of the newly annexed area of Lake Forest. Over the years, he has donated countless hours for the Daphne community, coaching little league teams, serving on the Daphne Recreation Board, and currently chairing the Daphne Environmental Advisory Committee. He also took an interest in the governance of the Lake Forest Property Owners’ Association (LFPOA), being elected to the board of directors in 2005. He was appointed the “Lake Chairman” and began looking into erosion issues impacting the Lake Forest Lake. He was soon introduced to the MBNEP and began working with them to initiate the D’Olive Watershed Working Group (DWWG). The group began meeting in the Lake Forest Country Club to plan a pathway for solutions to the problems facing the Watershed. As part of the DWWG, He assisted in gaining political support for joint resolutions supporting a watershed assessment from the City of Daphne, the City of Spanish Fort, and the Baldwin County Commission. As President of the LFPOA, he secured donations to the MBNEP from them for the initial watershed assessment work. Still today, Mr. Peterson follows the progress in the Watershed and participates in activities to promote the restoration of streams, water quality improvements, and the restoration of the Lake Forest Lake.
