Kristen Laursen is the Gulf of Mexico Regional Coordinator for the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) and lives in St. Petersburg, Florida. She helps the wide-ranging and different parts of NOAA understand and work with each other better in the Gulf region (Florida, Alabama, Mississippi, Louisiana, and Texas), and connects the regionally-based parts of NOAA with nationally-based NOAA programs and offices. She also links NOAA with other federal and state agencies in the region, as well as with partner academic and research organizations such as Sea Grant Programs, the Gulf of Mexico Coastal Ocean Observing System, or the Northern Gulf Institute. Ms. Laursen has completed short-term job assignments in Honolulu, HI, Washington, D.C., and regionally, including one with the Gulf Coast Ecosystem Restoration Council. Before becoming a Regional Coordinator in 2009 she worked in the Washington, D.C. area, focusing on NOAA’s senior leadership councils, advisory groups, and strategic planning. Ms. Laursen holds a Masters of Science in Oceanography and Coastal Sciences from Louisiana State University and a Bachelors of Science in Biology from the College of William and Mary.
