Biographical sketch
Dr. Kevin Dillon is an Associate Professor in USM’s School of Ocean Science and Engineering’s Division of Coastal Sciences in Ocean Springs, Mississippi. He received his B.S. in Marine Biology from The University of West Florida and his M.S. and Ph.D. in chemical oceanography from Florida State University. His research interests include the biogeochemical cycling of carbon and nutrients in aquatic systems, stable isotope ecology, groundwater hydrology, and analytical chemistry.
His current research focuses on the use of stable isotopes to investigate food web dynamics on natural and artificial reefs, restored wetlands as well as in oceanic Sargassum-associated communities. A portion of this work investigates the effects of riverine nutrient inputs on food web dynamics in coastal ecosystems.
Dr. Dillon has published two book chapters and twenty three papers in journal such as Limnology and Oceanography, Marine Ecology Progress Series, Marine Chemistry, Environmental Pollution, Microbial Ecology and the Journal of Hydrology. He has reviewed manuscripts for more than 20 journals and has reviewed proposals for funding agencies such as NSF and Seagrant and has served on review panels for Maryland and New York Seagrants. Dillon’s research has been funded by NFWF, RESTORE, GoMRI, USEPA, MS/AL Seagrant, Mississippi Tidelands, MS DMR and the Mississippi Water Resource Research Institute.
