Biographical sketch
Dr. Karen Bareford is the National Water Extension Liaison located at the NOAA’s National Water Center. Dr. Bareford works for the University of Alabama, in conjunction with the Mississippi-Alabama Sea Grant Consortium, and the National Weather Service’s Office of Water Prediction. She received a BS in Public Affairs, and a MS in Outdoor Recreation with an emphasis in environmental education and leadership, both from Indiana University. Her Ph.D. is in Urban and Regional Planning from Florida State University. Dr. Bareford has more than 14-years’ experience working with stakeholders, while managing a variety of projects related to the protection and management of coastal and water resources. These efforts have involved collaboration with various levels of local, county, state, and national representatives, the public, site managers, and other partners. Dr. Bareford’s current work focuses on ensuring that new and relevant water information and science is provided to communities across the nation. Her combination of experience and education enable her unique ability to work across organizational boundaries to better serve the public.
